A lifelong Angeleno born in the San Fernando Valley to working-class Filipino immigrants, Kenneth Mejia earned an Accounting degree from Woodbury University in Burbank and received a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in the State of California working as an auditor for one of the Big Four accounting firms. He was also a dedicated tenants’ and housing rights activist and organized community services for unhoused and low-income community members.
In November 2022, Kenneth Mejia was elected as the 20th Los Angeles City Controller, setting a record for the most votes ever received by any candidate in the history of LA with 513,288 votes.
He is the father of two corgis, Killa and Kirby.
